Love may be blind, but it sure isn’t cheap. The path of dating has the ability to render your pockets drier than the Sahara desert. However, there’s no need to avoid the dating scene just because you’re on a budget. Just don’t look sloppy, okay? Forego the filet mignon and prepare to enjoy your night life by dating on a dime.
Dating on a Dime: BYOB
Research the 3-4 star restaurants in your area with delicious, affordable food. Nothing is more disappointing than trying a new restaurant and spending money on subpar morsels. Purchasing your own alcohol can save you 50 bucks, so feel free to bring that bottle along. Take some time to check out the three star spots Don’t overlook the mom and pop restaurants; there are some gems in every city. By the way, what are you gonna wear? Here are some tips for looking good in your own fit from our own Penny Wise.
Think outside the building
Dates don’t necessarily have to be in an establishment. Go explore the great outdoors! Some easy ideas are a picnic, a hike, a drive in movie, and even a local musical performance. Some areas have seasonal concerts in the park so head to google and enjoy your evening. Even something old-fashioned like a walk in the park can turn into an epic evening. Ask the cops who had to… well, forget it.
Dating on a Dime: Coupon, Groupon
Have NO shame in your coupon game. Coupons abound for movie theaters, local attractions, and even two-for-one restaurant meals. You might not want to whip out that coupon folder on the first date, but after a while, put them to good use. Groupon has a varied array of deals that will assuredly spice up your dates.
Netflix and Chill..?
Going to the movies can be expensive, especially if its on a weekend. What if you turned on the tv, borrowed a friend’s netflix password, and let the magic happen? You can save up to 40 dollars between the both you before you even start to consider snacks and refreshments. Just be aware of the relational ramifications of Netflix and chill. You know what we mean 😉
Exercise
Exercise is the best gift you can give your body, so why not do it with your significant other? Get with a partner and aim to find strength and cardio workouts that you both can do. If you like it, do it again! Switch it up so your exercises are fun and motivational. You don’t even have to go to a gym. If you decide to work out at home, know that Youtube has many workout programs you can engage in. My favorite is “Fitness Blender”.
Game Night
Do you know your lover’s favorite video game? Before inviting them over, figure out how to play the game and get GOOD at it. It’s cute and all if you learn how to play, but s/he’ll be super impressed if you pose a threat to his/her’s winning streak! Bring a few refreshments and invite your S.O over for a few rounds of Tekken, Halo, Mario–the list goes on and on.
If you don’t have a console and can’t borrow one, I’d research a board game your lover enjoys. They’re cheaper but still give the same impact. Just remember to crush them! And don’t forget the snacks.
